Best resolution etc. for Ipod Touch
« on: February 18, 2009, 09:43:40 am »

Hiya!
I'd love to put my portfolio on my Itouch (gen 2) but the photos I put on there don't look too sharp. Anyone know the native resolution? I've looked all over the apple site and forums and can't find it. It's all just "hey the Ipod will do that for you!" but when my ipod did it for me the images look kinda fuzzy. Any tips?
Thanks!

Native resolution is 480x320. I believe that iTunes resizes photos automatically for you when loading them on your iPod, so you might get an improvement if the photos were pre-downsized.

You might try a little experiment... downsize and oversharpen, just downsize, just oversharpen, etc. Tag a variety of photos with a number for each process and see what looks best on the iPod touch screen.

Then create a simple Photoshop action to downsize/sharpen everything.

When I've loaded photos - they were resized automatically.  Actually found it a bit annoying, as it would be great to zoom in close and see all the detail.  Haven't looked to see if there is a setting that allows one to override the auto-resize.
