My photo black ink needed replaced so I inserted the new 700 ml. photo black like I have done with the half a dozen others I replaced. It cycles a little showing the # 6 slot now full. After about 10 seconds it shows empty on the screen and instructs me to replace it. I was printing canvas with mat black when I replaced it so it probably was not being used. Any ideas how to get this going?
Thanks
Dan Berg
How do you edit the header as I wanted to correct spelling? I do know how to spell cartridge.

This happened to my 7900 a few months ago. I removed the cartridge and left it next to the printer for a few hours.
I then re-inserted and it was fine. It think it might have something to do with temperature differential and condensation etc.

Good luck,

Ryan

I'll give it a try. It says something about condensation in the manual as well.

Talked to Epson tech. support. They are over nighting a new 700ml bk ink. They are also sending a tech support person out next week to look at my 7900 as it has been doing a cleaning cycle about every third print.
I will report on the outcome.

My 9900 was not recognizing several carts last week and Epson tech support was of no help whatsoever. They thought it was the main control board and scheduled a service technician to come out. He was in the area last Thursday and dropped by to check things out. When the parts showed up this afternoon, he returned, and in the meantime had been thinking about the error code I had reported to Epson.

Turns out that these carts are very similar to the 11880 carts and those printers have had some issues with internal air pockets tricking the printer into thinking it's empty. He popped out the yellow cart which was not registering, and with the label side up, gave it a couple of knocks on a hard table, followed by a gentle shaking. Bingo. Everything is fine again.

It's too much to expect (even if it shouldn't be) tech support to think outside the box, but not apparently for a great independent technician. Hats off to Pete Hoeffner.

Epson sent a new PK black ink cart today, installed it and works great. I told the Tech rep yesterday that the 7900 seems to be cleaning way more then it should. They set up an appointment to have the tech rep come Thurs. morning this week. I also received by Fed Ex today all the parts the tech may need. You should see this box of new parts, new print head and everything that could possibly be wrong with this printer is in the box. Pretty amazing. The only thing missing is ink. I was hoping with all the test runs they would do that they would throw in a set of starter inks.
