Mamiya ZD, very quiet here?
« on: September 30, 2004, 08:49:47 pm »

It's semi-vapour ware.  No samples in pros/reviewers hands.  No images.  While serious shooters all have other systems they are committed to.

Those holding Mamiya lenses for the 645 or the RZ are happy they may have a cheaper back soon and are interested in the integrated offering.

This announcement was an effort to make prospective 1Ds buyers hold off. Perhaps MF back buyers as well.  Pros shooting 1Ds will watch from affar to see what transpires but very very few of these ready to get a 1Ds Mk II will even hesitate.

If they could prove this camera would be on shelves by January then it would be a revolution.  Most don't believe it will be widely available even by Summer and even then maybe not in the US.

MF looks destined to exist in limbo for some time to come.  Canon will continue to eat into this market (huge chunks) with the 1Ds and looking at the economics it is doubtfull that MF is headed anywhere but down.

If significant profit cannot be made by manufacturing MF cameras and backs while twenty companies are raking in billions shoveling out digicams ....

Sure Phase One, given they are making huge profits in the software game, can afford to keep a divison going that makes a few thousand units a year at astronomical prices ... but that certainly fences me out.  Most others as well.

I'm gonna buy a film scanner.

Surprisingly little discussion.
Has eveyone rushed off to buy back their old Mamiya lenses before prices go up.
