Good link for Z3100 HP Baryta profile download?
« on: February 03, 2009, 04:52:18 pm »

As usual the HP site links don't work - does anyone have a working link or the file to send, for the Z3100 new HP Baryta profile?  I want to try it with IGFS and see how it does compared to using Fine Art Pearl.

Thanks!

To anyone wondering about his combo, don't waste your money - stick with fine art pearl, the new one ruins the shadows - very muddy.

I agree, it almost eliminates the gloss differential which is a huge problem with this printer/paper combination, but the heavier ink load loses detail in the shadows. At least this was the case in my own B&W paper search.

I bought a 15 meter of this paper because i was hoping that HP did there homework- I was wrong !
this paper is ugly and cannot print proper blacks -

Also the mac download for the paper corrupted my Z3100- it did not work and I had to throw the paper preset away. ( after some hours fiddling for the solution)

The better paper is Hahnemuhle Photo Rag Baryta-

It has some gloss differential but not that much - Or try the Epson Traditional Photopaper-( exhibition fibre)  works beautiful but contains whiteners

( i only use these papers for black and white prints - for colour I stick to HP satin pro)

I have tried the Photo Rag and absolutely LOVE it - except the price.  If it was on par with the Ilford I would use it exclusively.  I can live with the gloss differential for the significant cost difference.  But I would rather have the Photo Rag for sure.

Completely agree. Yet Epson isn't in other than sheet is it?
I like the Hahnemuhle better than any other paper. I also have been playing with Museo Silver Rag which is very close. Epson is available everywhere and at a slightly better price than the two mentioned papers.

The only thing you have to know for Hahnemuhle  or other baryta and HP pigments is when you polish off that ugly haze the underlaying colour is towards green. The haze maintains a red/magenta reflection in a matte type of finish. This is with GE on ECO mode BTW. So if you make a custom profile let it dry wipe off the haze, profile away.  You gain a lot of Dmax by doing this and the BW is much better>
