Noisy drive on Z3100
« on: January 31, 2009, 06:18:58 pm »

Lately, the drive on my Z3100 (left side) became noisy (a light grindy sound which disappears if I slightly lift the unit from the ground).
Generally, it runs for 15 minutes when I turn it on, then after that time, grinding begins. Is it just a loose something somewhere or should I call support to have it thoroughly checked ?

Isn't that the fan at the left side back ? Would surprise me that the printer's construction and its distortion when lifted has any influence on the internal spinning disc of a harddisc ? More likely fan blades touching their encasing.

Thank you, Ernst.
Didn't find anything in the Yahoo groups.
You may be right, it's rather purely mechanical than hardware related,
but I won't mess with the internals and call HP to fix it.
