Z3100 accounting file deleted with firmware upgrade
« on: January 30, 2009, 02:51:31 pm »

I upgraded my firmware to 7.0.0.whatever on my Z3100 and can't seem to find my print job log files... Are they gone forever or just hiding somewhere? Does anyone know if there's a way to get the hard drive on the printer to mount on the desktop?

thanks,

Paul

This has been brought up before - it sucks.

Next time save the web page of the log in a save place before upgrading.

However since Mike Chaney changed some log features of Qimage it is my preferred way of keeping track of jobs: default setting now keeps all log entries forever + the search tool looks into all the text in the log files. I have made scheduled tasks in Windows that writes forth and back the log files of Qimage to another installed on the system I use for bookkeeping. 10 minutes idle on a 3 hour schedule triggers that function.

The only thing I have to remind myself off is that for longer runs I keep the printer data in the spooler to make multiple prints without going through the rasterisation in Qimage again and again. Saves time but isn't worth it when the prints do not make it to the invoice because the prints made that way are not recorded in the Qimage log file :-)  A solution to that is on my request list to Mike if he ever gets to writing an extra interface to the driver spooler in Qimage itself. That request I already put forward on the Qimage list. Similar feature is in RIPs where spooled jobs are saved and can be repeated.

It must be possible to make a scheduled task of saving the web page of the Z's log as well and that log has all the records of all the jobs done from any application + repeats from the driver spooler. Before upgrading one should give that saved page another name. Of course the best solution would be an integration of the log files of both as they tell a lot more together.
