From the winter cold
« on: January 24, 2009, 02:22:12 pm »

I managed to get out in the brief cold snap at home. A couple of shots worked for me. One was shot on an 80mm Summilux R on a 5D (the stream) the other on a 40 year old, 35mm Summicron on an M8 - the intent being to use the flare as a part of the image.

I really like the first image, superb. But the second is a bit heavy on the flare and overwhelms the subject matter. It might have worked if somehow you could have minimized the flare, but I know this is difficult.

I like the first one too, but I prefer the second one.  To me the flare becomes an element of the photograph itself and not just something to look past to see the photograph.  But hey, everyone gets an opinion!

That 80 Summilux is one heck of a lens, and that's a terrific photo. Great composition, great colors, and you feel the cold just looking at it.
