ilford gold silk (roll) streaks on 4800
« on: January 24, 2009, 12:13:22 am »

I set the paper type to Premium Semigloss Photo Paper (thats what they suggest) and tried Platen gap set to Wide and Wider. Both produce what I can only describe as head streaks (these go with the printhead, not pizzawheel marks). Can anyone make any suggestions for me, I have already wasted about 2ft of this paper

Only thing I can think of is setting the Paper thickness to something higher, currently its set to its default for Premium semigloss which is .3ml

Is there any way to increase the suction on the paper?

It's not the first time I've heard of head strikes on this paper whatever the printer.

I think the driver only allows a negative suction, meaning less suction. The options I see are Standard, -1. -2, -3 and -4

On the 3800, GFS prints fine - but at Thickness 4 (0.4mm), Wide or Wider, PSGP. At 315mu thickness = 0.315mm, round up and your at 0.4mm or thickness 4

I had the same problem but using wide seems to have fixed it with my 9800.  It sure is stiff paper and the roll paper is hard to flatten.  I'm think the closer I get to the end of this first roll that I bought the more likely some streaking.  I happen to have a Vacu-Press and was thinking that if the rolls are too difficult to work with that I will cut to size and then flatten with the press before printing.
