Anyone Tried PremierArt Platinum Rag?
« on: January 20, 2009, 08:47:54 am »

Has anyone tried PremierArt Platinum Rag? I saw that they claim it has the best D-Max of any paper using matte ink. It sounds to me like it is similar to Hahnemuhle's Photo Rag Pearl.

Thanks!

Crane Museo Max is rated as one of the, if not the highest, best D-Max MK papers.

I'm getting better DMax with Canson Rag Photographique and Edition Etching than Museo Max or H Photorag
The Edition Etching is similar in texture to Max.

When this paper first came out I gave it a try based upon a write up on the inkjetart newsletter. I got a package and quickly saw three things. First, that the paper had deeper blacks than anything I had ever seen with Matt ink. Second, that the package I got came with a wicked curl. Third, that I don't necessarily want to have everything have really deep blacks.

I posted a couple of places to see what others experience was, and got few responses, most that complained of quality control issues. I kinda lost interest.

Seems from what I'm reading now that the current version is a bit different than the one I tried (thinner for one, which is fine for me), and I think I'll give it a try again.

I'd love to have an option for deeper blacks in those cases where the image warrants it.

At least the measurements I've seen on line also show the Premier Art has a signficantly higher Dmax than Crane Museo Max.
