Quality portfolio reviews
« on: January 05, 2009, 05:05:30 pm »

I'm looking for suggestions of places that do high quality portfolio reviews, where you can have your portfolio seen by many professionals in the photography field in a 2-3 day review session. I know there is review santa fe, and photolucida, both are supposed to be very good, quality reviews where your work can be seen by many professionals in the field, museum curators, book and magazine editors, gallery owners etc. Anything closer to new york or new england of the same caliber?

the Soho photo gallery is offering monthly/paid portfolio reviews: www.sohophoto.com/portfolio_review.html
MOMA is also offering portfolio reviews, but they will just look at it, and under no circumstances whatsoever offer any comment or opinion.
Jim Beecher at photokaboom.com is also offering (paid) portfolio reviews and tips and advice.

other than that, i don't know anything else in NYC, it's tough here to get feedback, due to so many photographers and artists here in the city

With all the photographers in NYC, you would think this type of event would be useful and well attended by quality reviewers and talented photographers.

What is your goal for the review? Are you looking for a critique of your work to help get the portfolio in shape, or are you looking for assignments and/or for a show?

The SOHO photo review is for joining the gallery.

There are many consultants available for feedback and direction on your portfolio, check the PDN website most are listed there.  ASMPNY has review session events with the top AD's, editors and art buyers annually but you have to be a member.  Great reason to join-  www.asmpny.org is the site.
