iPF5100 and imported ink cartridges
« on: January 04, 2009, 04:34:54 am »

About six months ago there was some discussion about importing ink cartridges from another country being compatible (country coded/chipped).

I can't find that old thread but for my Aussies mates......

I imported ink from Jim at Shades of Paper to the Philippines and they work just fine on my European model iPF5100.

I pestered the local Canon distributer but after 4 months they never bothered to get back to me with prices or availability so I'll be ordering amm my supplies Stateside from now on.

Ok to import to Oz, except outrageous postage charges.  The cart price of about AUD87 for a 130 ml 6100 ink is OK.  Trouble is the cheapest postage is $36US or about $50 Australian. That totals $137 Australian - not a saving on local prices.

As I'm based in the Philippines there is a work around for that! A freight forwarding company that charges by weight only, no duty.

Not sure how they get round it all but they have offices all over Manila and in New York. For some items (paper) its my only option.
