Imaging Loading Question
« on: December 29, 2008, 01:27:08 pm »

Hi,

New User to the forum here so forgivness if I ask questions that may seem obvious to others ..

I have a few gripes with Lightroom but one in particular occurs when it loads a Raw image ...

First it looks slightly fuzzy while it sorts out thedata ..  then as it clears the image looks perfect, often as good as it looks when I viewed the file on the Camera LCD .. (Nikon D3)

Then when the image loads it seems to auto adjust, more often then not it just brightens the image which is annoying because that normally blows the highlights or enhances any noise ..

Can anyone say why LR does this and what can be done to correct it?

Regards,

It loads the embedded Jpeg before doing its own rendering.  So you see the image that you saw on the cameras LCD before it creates its own preview.

You can try setting more appropriate defaults.  But keep in mind that one image is created by the camera and the other by LR.  Since they are created by two different renderers they can only be close.  They'll never be the same.

Edit: Oh, and google DNG profiles.  They'll help get the colors right.
