Powered Firewire solution for PC??
« on: December 26, 2008, 04:35:25 pm »

I am sorry if this has been covered already.  I am wondering if there is any way to power my digital back through my firewire port.  I guess not directly from the computer (unless there is an express card).  Could a powered firewire hub do it?

Thanks in advance.

The original firewire spec includes a power pair, but subsequent innovators took it away.  If you have a six-pin firewire port on your 'puter, it should deliver power.   That's the largish socket with an inner tab.  But if yours is the four-pin, no power.  Thank Sony for that.

The description of this hub leads me to think it might do what you need, although you may need to add a four-pin to six-pin cable to connect with the 'puter.
