Canon iPF5100 for $200 OBO
« on: December 26, 2008, 01:49:09 pm »

OK I got your attention. I told everyone of the recent great deal from Atlex for the 5100 and 6100. I bought a 5100 just for the ink, paper, and the print heads. Maybe someone can use the brand new printer itself - no ink, no print heads.  It has a new maintenance cartridge which is worth something. Perhaps you have an ipf5000 and want to upgrade. Maybe your 5000 doesn't have the roller feed. Or maybe you want a backup. This is cheaper than any repair cost and has a new warranty.  I haven't unwrapped it or done anything to it other than take out the ink and print heads.  I have all of the original packing but it would be a bear to ship.  So local pick-up would be best. I am in the Washington DC area - Silver Spring, MD.

The cost of replacement print heads and a full set of inks is far more than the cost of just buying a 5100. In fact I think you could buy a brand new 6100 for less. Buying one without the printhead/inks only makes sense if you already have one and need some parts. I suggest going to Atlex or ITSupplies.com and checking prices before you purchase...

Heads are about $550 each so that is $1100. A set of 130ml ink is about $830.  (90ml starter ink comes standard.)  An entire printer with 90ml ink is about $1329 new. I paid $799 for mine and it came with $300 worth of paper.  Unfortunately, it is often cheaper to buy a new printer than the parts. That is why I have this  brand new printer for sale.  I was just hoping someone might have a use for it.  If nobody buys it even for a little money, I'll just keep it as a backup.  Someday I probably will throw it away unused.  It is a shame but that is Canon's pricing.

As I said in my initial post, this probably will only appeal to someone who needs a backup, has a printer that broke, or maybe wants to upgrade from a 5000 (the heads and 8 of the ink carts could be used.)  I bought it because I got a good deal for the parts I wanted.
