Profiles for Epson 9900
« on: December 12, 2008, 06:27:37 pm »

I recently took delivery of a new Epson 9900 printer.  And yes it is a lot bigger than the 9800 and very well built.

I find it odd that Epson did not include a profile for Exhibition Fiber with the others they shipped with the printer.   Anyone know where I can find a good profile for Epson Exhibition Fiber?    I would also be interested in profiles for Ilford Gold Fiber Silk and Crane Museo Silver Rag (my other two favorite papers).   On a longshot Epson Somerset Velvet is needed also.    Any help is very much appreciated.

thanks, John

Pixel Genius hasn't built one yet (we're kind of waiting on printers like others).

IF you ping me off line, I'd be happy to supply an "unofficial" profile that should work just fine.

Jim and Rodney,
Thanks for the help.   I made a few test prints of images which could not be printed on my epson 9800 and just barely fit into the gamut of my HPZ3100 using professional satin paper.   Using Epson Premium Luster(260) on the Epson 9900 the prints are fantastic.  The gamut of the HDR inks really is impressive.  So far I am very pleased.

Anyone want an Epson 9800 in excellent condition?

thanks, John

I just set up my 7900 this past week and made the assumption that the Exhibition Fiber profile would be installed along with profiles for all
of the compatible Epson papers. I even promised to deliver a job on EF this week. Is there an issue with using the paper on a 7900 that
would have caused Epson to leave it out?

I've been an Imageprint user for years and I am pleasantly surprised by the Epson supplied profiles, no need to spend a fortune on a RIP.

I am in the same boat having received my 9900 last week.  I talked to Ilford and they don't even have plans to buy the printer according to their tech service department.  Very disappointing.  Anyway, Andrew Rodney was kind enough to send me a copy of his preliminary ICC for Exhibition Fiber, which I don't want to post but can provide if you send me an email.  I would also appreciate getting an Ilford Gallerie Gold Fiber Silk profile if anyone has one.

I also understand that Epson has tied the printer driver to ink delivery volume as well so their papers will work best in this printer.  Can someone suggest which of the Epson semi gloss or semi mat papers is best for color depth and print sharpness?

Thanks,
Malcolm

No, you DON'T understand that...there is NOTHING about the 79/9900 that is ANY different than previous Epson printers in this regard. Epson has ALWAYS only provided media settings for THIER papers...the settings CAN be used with 3rd party papers but it's up to the 3rd party paper company to tell you what media setting to use or you can experiment to your heart's desire. But there is no change regarding the media settings in the drivers (except for some additional controls that only the pro printers have).

Jeff,

Thanks for clarifying that issue.  Any thoughts on which Epson paper in the semi-gloss, semi-matte or lustre range for PK inks that would give the best results from a 9900 besides the Exhibition Fiber that doesn't come in rolls?

I would also be interested in your projected release date for an Exhibition Fiber ICC.

By the way, I really enjoyed the Epson Print Academy in NYC.  Great Job by all!

Thanks,
Malcolm

Yes, I hear you.  Having to find a second choice for larger than 24x30 myself.

Hahnamulee FAB seems pretty close, a little more texture but a similar look.  I've just finished making profiles so I can make some actual prints for comparison this week.

Fab is great but no rolls as mentioned.  Still like ilford but no profiles as yet.  Can you send your profile for the Han fiber?

Thanks

Really?  one reason I tested it was Hahnamuhle web sites lists rolls as available for this paper, from 17" to 64" wide.

About the profiles, I've profiled it for my 11880.  My i1i0 and both spectro's seemed to have all flaked out at the same time.  My dealer is loaning me their i1 for a few days, I'll try and read in the 7900 FAB target's tonight.

Has anyone come up with an Ilford Galerie Gold FS profile for the 7900 or 9900 as yet?  If you have, I would really appreciate a copy.

Thanks,
Malcolm

I also bought the 7900 and was sad to find there aren't profiles for some of the papers I use. I was wondering if anyone has a 7900 profile for the somerset velvet fine art roll. I would be incredibly grateful if someone could send it to me.

I'm not (yet - I'm considering one) a 7900 user, BUT I can absolutely confirm the availability of Hahnemuhle Fine Art Baryta in rolls, as I've gone through three 17 inch rolls of it already.
