Photographic print storage
« on: December 12, 2008, 12:51:36 pm »

I'm trying to figure out a good way to store and manage my final prints that I have not framed, matted, or have on display.  I have dozens, if not hundreds of prints that are either purchased or printed by me that I need to store safely.  Printing paper no longer comes with protective sheets and I'm concerned that they will get damaged by just placing them in a portfolio box.  Any ideas?  What does everyone else do?

Michael, I'd love a description or video display of how you handle your prints not on display.  I imagine that you have quite a few more than I do.

Thanks,

Eric

Personally I either coat my prints with Glamour II Veneer so that they can be handled easier or I insert them into poly sleeves from www.clearbags.com

I use interleaving paper (for inkjet prints) between each print inside an acid free box. I also put a desiccant canister inside the box to remove moisture. Go to Light Impressions http://www.lightimpressionsdirect.com
they have everything for long term archival storage.

I also put some interleave paper, some thin archival silk paper, between each print.
I don't it for this but on frameless/glassless aluminium prints, the hahnemuhle protective spray, which is really amazing as a protection not changing anything on the print.

Are the boxes that the paper comes in acid-free?  I've been storing my prints there, thinking that if it's good enough to hold the unprinted paper it should be a good place for storage after printing as well.  I may be way off-base here now that I think about it...
