Epson 3800 problems w/Vista
« on: December 11, 2008, 03:10:52 pm »

Seems like I'm going through computer hell. I tried to print my first image with the new CS4, Epson 3800 and good ol' Vista. First of all, the dialog page for the 3800 is different and there is no dialogue box for different papers and profiles! I went on and printed anyway and what I got was a copy of my home page for the internet!! Any ideas?

And yes, I downloaded a new driver for Vista from the Epson site.  I really, really miss XP.

To continue on...I solved the profile problem, however a new one has cropped up. The printer suddenly changed to Matte Black ink from Photo and will not return to Photo no matter what I do and now refuses to print! Sheesh.

You probably printed on a media type that requires matte black, such as enhanced matte.

The driver automatically switches ink types based on your choice of media type.

So if you want to print on Premium Luster paper, choose Premium Luster for the media type, and hit print. The printer will automatically switch back to Photo Black, since that's what's needed for the Premium Luster media type.

Or you can invoke black switching manually from the printer panel itself (i.e., the physical printer unit, not the software driver).

Unfortunatley I never picked a matte paper! I've since heard from Epson and they recommended I uninstall their software and start over. And they gave me a phone number to call if this doesn't work. Sweet.

Good luck.  I installed my 3800 on my Vista machine on Tuesday, and I haven't had  problems, other than getting fine art paper to load through the rear feeder.  It seems to take a touch of finesse...

All recent problems solved! See Steve Z's post for my solution.
