Fuji 680 users?
« on: December 04, 2008, 03:36:28 pm »

Before moving to shooting the majority of my work using digital capture I mainly used a Fuji 680 III...beautiful camera, movements (limited), great lenses, multi format (6x8, 6x7, 6x6, 6x4.5).....and big (I quite like a big camera..something to hide behind;). But since moving to digital I have hardly shot this camera, a few film shoots and one digital shoot a few years back with a Sinar 54m (which worked well, except for a software disaster).

I have now made the move to shooting a lot of my work on a Hasselblad H3D 39, which I will continue to do for most jobs, but I am keen to use this back on the Fuji, most probably via Kapture Groups adapter. (are there any other options...I've not seen any...)

Has anyone here had any experience using MFDB on the Fuji 680? in particular is any using the Kapture Group solution for the H mount? Could you comment on the issue of no infinity focus...

All the Best

Hi Bronek,
Yes the Fuji is a great camera, I have one and use it every day with a Leaf CantareXY. You can use it with most digi backs, some more easily than others, but there is lots of information on the Kapture Group web site about this, including the infinity focus issue, I guess it depends what you want to use it for.

Cheers,
Jason.

the fuji680 is a great, big camera.. I sometimes wish I went that route with digital back..I think if ever there was a large sensor with
big ole 2005 era pixels this would be a great solution for a lot of us.. well me for one.. I can't remember the last time infinity was sharp for me anyway.

It's not all pretty. Read our Setup and Troubleshooting guide for a strait-forward, no BS explanation of what a PITA the setup can be with a digital back.

http://www.captureintegration.com/2008/04/...ot-fuji-680iii/

But assuming you can are a pretty technical photographer willing to maintain a diligent workflow, keep several types of spare batteries, and are a competent troubleshooter (you can use our guide to isolate what is wrong) then this is a really great camera. Nowhere else can you get the exact feature set and it is a real joy to shoot with. Also, it looks really freaking sweet and if you have anyone to impress it would be hard to find someone who wouldn't look at a Fuji 680 and assume the photographer knows what their doing (doesn't impact IQ of course, but IQ ain't everything).

They are also real workhorses.

Hi Doug,
I just had a look at the trouble shooting guide, and was a little puzzled. Why are you saying that you use the AA pack as well as the three CR123A in the body? Is this particular to Phase one. I don't even own one and shoot every day with a CantareXY, as I mentioned. To be perfectly honest, the best bet with these is to go with Sinar or Hasselblad CF with their screw on plates.

Cheers,
Jason.

I think it must be a phase thing, with the 54m it just went straight on and worked, with a little flash cable think.

I'm hoping there will be a new solution coming from kapture group that will work with the h3d and the fuji 680 and NOT have the infinity focus issue, this is something they are working on.
