Can't get 3800 to load on Mac OS X Leopard
« on: November 17, 2008, 05:42:54 pm »

My Dell crashed for the last time and I've switched to an iMac. So far my biggest problem is getting the 3800 software to load. The computer says the download was successful but I can't find it anywhere on the computer and the computer will not let me eject the CD which is supposed to indicate there is a problem. Any help appreciated.

Hi John,

My suggestion is that you download the latest Epson 3800 driver from the Epson USA support site, which is here:

Thanks for the advice. I tried it, twice, still no go. Guess I'll call Mac in the morning.

Did you look in your dock?  I believe the default dock contains an icon to your download folder, normally right next to the trash can, and the latest download should be there.  As mentioned, there should be a folder in your home folder named Downloads.

In addition, if you are using safari to download, you can show the downloads window there and the file should be listed.  click the hourglass icon and that will show the file in the finder.

I don't quite understand where the issue is for you. In Leopard all downloads default to a download folder unless a browser redirects this. If you have run the installation and that performed correctly from the CD then proceed to System Preferences / Print & Fax and that is where you need to click the '+' sign to find and select the printer to make it active in the main list.

I have recently upgraded my Macbook to Leopard and have done this for multiple printers. Everything does work, but it is fundamentally different than Tiger OS was.

John, thank you for your insight. However, the printer does not show up where you said it would be. I haven't used a Mac in over 11 years so am basically a neophyte with this stuff. I'll be calling the Mac people today to find out what's going wrong.

Wayne, nothing shows up on the dock. I agree everyone else's Mac I have seen has this, but the icons are not showing up. Maybe I've got a bad Apple? (joke).

The hour glass icon is located in the upper right hand toolbar next to the time. It is spotlight and can search for anything on your mac by typing in an item to look for. It does sound like you are having more of a not used to using a mac issue than a 3800 issue. You're are probably right in calling Apple today so they can walk you through the process. I am using a 3800 on a MacPro running Leopard 10.5.5. Once you get it up and running, I think  you will really like the printer and and your new imac.

Found it. But still no help. I've been using the 3800 since it came out. I just now called a buddy who is already running the same setup as I now have. He couldn't get his to work either so he runs his through Image Print. He suggested I go to the Apple store and get them to help and stated that when I found out to call him so I could tell him what to do! This is really crazy.

I really don't know how this happened, but all of a sudden the darn thing started working!! However, it won't pull up the Epson dialog box so I can configure the print, but hey, baby steps here - one at a time. Thanks for all the assistance, i think I'll contact Epson about the remaining problem.
