Photoshop CS4 and Kodak Photo CD files

CS4 does not ship with a plugin for Kodak Photo CD format. Fortunately, the plugin that came with CS3 works. The file, color profiles for Mac and Windows,  and readme are on the CS3 installation disk. If you haven't uninstalled CS3, you can copy the plugin. The required color profiles should already be in the Common Files folder (Windows). The readme also says,

"Note also that Photo CD does not work on Intel-based Macintoshes unless you run Photoshop under Rosetta."

I seem to remember reading somewhere that you can download this from adobes site free (along with the extract filter/pattern maker/picture package)  But I could be wrong.  Wayne

Kodak Photo CD is a dead format. I use Apple's iPhoto to open the photo CD images and then save as TIFF to open in Photoshop CS4.
I'm glad I only had one Kodak Photo CD made back in 1992.

The format is dead, but many organizations, including the Smithsonian, put valuable images on Kodak Photo CD's. It was just by chance that I tried to open a Photo CD image before I uninstalled CS3 or discarded the installation disk. Others might not be so lucky, and they will then have to look for a means to open the files. Who knows how long iPhoto will support the format.

Ideally, Kodak will support the format with plugins or converters.

Archived to Kodak photo cd, Adobe will be pleased, they are pushing DNG as the archival format.   For what it's worth you can download the plugin for Kodak CD.   Wayne
