Epson Hot and Cold Press samples
« on: November 13, 2008, 03:27:56 pm »

Now that I am producing prints routinely from my Epson Stylus Pro 7900 I have been able to take a closer look at the included sample pack. There are four Epson papers that I am not familiar with:

Hot Press Bright 325 gsm C13S042330
Hot Press Natural 325 gsm C13S042320
Cold Press Bright 325 gsm C13S042310
Cold Press Natural 325 gsm C13S042300

I haven't been able to find any more information than the above descriptions and codes.
Can anyone shed some light on these papers?

Thanks in advance,

Ryan

Thanks for the reply. Do you know if these papers will be available in roll form?

I have just found the answer to my own question. The Epson Stylus Pro 7900 sample pack has a long list of the various paper sizes and codes including the new papers Hot Press Bright, Hot Press Natural, Cold Press Bright and Cold Press Natural.

All four new papers have codes for A3+ and A2 sheet; and 17", 24" and 44" roll.

I quite like the the look of the new papers. The Hot Press is smoother and with a loupe appears to have a very similar surface texture to Epson Ultrasmooth. To my eye, the loupe reveals only a very slightly greater thickness than Epson Ultrasmooth even though the weight is quite a bit more.

The cold press surface has more texture. I can only compare it to Hahnemuehle German Etching as I tend to use smooth matte papers most of time.

Until a few weeks ago I would have steered away from the Bright versions because of worries about OBAs but not now. I am really looking forward to the release of these four papers.
