My prints have been finding there way into galleries and framers by way of the private customers I've been dealing with. Now some of these pros are requesting "sample books" of my images.
Say what? I'm wondering what the mojo of the sample book thing is.
On the surface it seems like it couldn't hurt to have a book in the hands of those professionals who might sell prints for me. I'm normally not a suspicious guy, but somehow there's a little warning bell ringing somewhere in my head.
I'm thinking things like...
--Should I charge for the books? (they would cost me at least $50 each)
--Should I loan the books for a period of time, versus a giveaway?
--Is there some scam with getting artist's books?
--Has anyone gotten a good screwing over this way?
--Is there anything special I should do beyond having a copyright notice on each image or such?
How do the big boys handle it?
Would appreciate your input. Funny there's not a business forum here.
