Well, it's not an "L" lens wide open or stopped all the way down. But from f5.6 to f16 it's a fine lens. That's really where the Sigma EX line saves money. If you don't shot wide open or stopped way down the EX line is good, othewise go with L glass for Canon or ED glass for Nikon. I use the lens on the SD9, and it's great.

Thanks

I decided to go ahead and get the Sigma and have been using it for a while. I suppose I would rate the lens something like 6.5 out of 10 overall, so to be honest I got what I expected.

See here: Lens Test   (Apologies if the page is a mess - I've been having what appears to be software conflicts on some computers!)

If you're strapped for cash for some time to come, the Sigma will prove useful. The 24mm end is certainly useful.

Ultimately I have my eye on the Canon 24-70mm L lens! That's a couple of years away, attached to a future 10D-type body. The 300D will do until then. Better get saving...

I was wondering if anyone here was using the Sigma 24-70mm f2.8 EX Aspherical DG DF on the 300D, or had any thoughts on this Sigma lens.

I know that it falls behind the L glass, but holds its own pretty well.

Hi, Sam.  I own this lens and have been quite disappointed with it on my 10D and even more so full-frame.  Sigma's 28~70 is much better, from what I've heard.

The 24-70 is quite large and heavy (b/c it's a 2.8) but all that is wasted because it's totally unusable wider than 5.6.  I've not heard of very many people happy with it.  I'm looking to sell mine, if you're interested.

One thing to add...I find myself shooting (w/10D) around the 24, 50, or 70 mm marks.  I probably won't replace mine with a zoom, just a 50mm prime instead.  You might want to think about getting a wide-ange prime or zoom, a 50 prime, and then a 70-200f/4L (it's SHARP, SHARP).
