looking for advice on canon paper
« on: November 10, 2008, 07:42:52 am »

Hello Everyone!

I have seen some really helpful posts here, and so I have just joined the site myself.

I've got a question.  Any advice would be appreciated.  I've just purchased a Canon ipf5100, and I'd like to know which papers will give me the best output for these situations:

1.  Landscapes, where I want intense color and sharp detail.

2.  Sports (running, tri), where I'm looking for sharpness more than anything else.

3.  Portraits, where the priorities would be on more subtle color and less on sharpness.

So far, I've made one landscape print on the sample roll of Canon Premium Matte.  As a watercolor, it would be fine, but it doesn't have the level of sharpness and saturation that I really want.

I'd like to stick within Canon for the profiles, but I don't know the difference between, for example, the Photo Gloss and the RC Photo Gloss.  I'm not doing a ton of printing, so price isn't as much a consideration as performance.

Thanks!

For portraits I use Canon Archival Matt (280gsm) - it's my favorite paper by a long shot.
I think it looks really good in a portfolio as well.

I've also had a play with the smooth cotton and find it's nice for B & W stuff.
