Redrock Video DSLR Accessories for Canon 5D MkII
« on: November 01, 2008, 03:27:17 am »

Redrock announced a kit to transform the Canon 5D MkII into a production-ready cinema solution by providing:

    * Rock-solid 15mm support system
    * Follow focus with 35mm lens gearing for accurate and repeatable focusing
    * Swing-away mattebox for light management and easy access to changing lenses
    * Shoulder mount and handgrips for steady handheld use
    * Support cage for enhanced stability and low angle shot

It would be interesting to hear the opinions of pro videographers about this kit.

(I am not a videographer)

The kit is probably better than the camera but then it will fit future DSLRVs (my phrase!) so no problem there

My limited experience of shooting footage says you need this sort of stuff to make a DSLRV work as steady shooting and focus pulling hand held is most impossible

It's incredible how you can turn a light and portable camera into such a fancy high tech and pro looking with the grace of a mammoth camera.

Actually the 'clumsy' kit actually makes the camera far more useful as a movie camera - which is its intention.
And compared to most movie cameras, that set up is one svelte and graceful beastie. The 5D nice as it is for stills is not so ergonomic for the more complicated process of filming, hence the handy RedRock attacments.

I know, I know. It's that it looks pretty overwhelming after the dressing.

If it makes focusing easier and more accurate, it'll be worth it.
