Anyone else interested in the Samsung XL30? Group buy?
« on: October 26, 2008, 03:40:29 am »

With its 30" size, wide gamut and LED backlighting, this seems like a very interesting monitor for retouching. Is anyone else in the market for one of these? I'm wondering how good a deal we might get with a group buy.

Review here: http://www.proprint.com.au/Review/113963,s...aster-xl30.aspx

It's $2698 here, but I don't now if this is a reliable retailer: http://www.costcentral.com/proddetail/Sams...2/pricegrabber/

If anyone knows of a better LED-backlit 30" screen for the same money or less, I'm open to suggestions.

This is the monitor I have in mind once my Artisan dies.

I have considered the XL30 but am also seriously considering the HP Dreamcolor LP2480zx.

It's definitely tempting Graham...  But when I upgrade it will be difficult for me to avoid the Eizo 30", even at 2x the cost...

Reputation and past experience I guess.  At $2700 the Samsung isn't cheap enough for me to be willing to "take a chance" on it. I had a Samsung go bad in a few months once, and getting it warrantied was a PITA. Took a long time with an uncertain outcome...
