There's nothing going on here other than a bit of corporate disinformation.

The promotion is not by Mamiya Japan, it's by Mamiya America Corporation, a totally separate company notwithstanding its name. MAC, as it's called, is the US distributor for mamiya cameras AND for Leaf backs.

They have put together a promotional package of the two products.

That's the full story. The announcement though makes it appear that the package is from Mamiya in Japan, the camera's manufactuer, (who as some may know is in a joint venture to make cameras on an OEM basis for Phase One).

That seems to make sense. I can't see Mamiya developing such a cosy relationship with Leaf without half the world and its dog knowing about it long beforehand.

You guys think this is new?

I have a brochure here on my desk, that is several years old.  It's from Leaf, and it shows the Mamiya 645AFD with the very old 6MP 24x36mm Leaf digital back.  It was a "bundle" package being sold, from a deal that Mamiya and Leaf had.  They have always done deals, and offered Mamiya/Leaf packages like this over the years.  It is absolutely NOTHING new.

No need to say "In bed with Leaf."  LOL

What gives ? Nice demure Mamiya, in stable and financially beneficial relationship with Phase, jumps in bed with exotic Leaf for exciting international affair, consummated with reporters attending in both the US and Belgium  ?  Who is going to get alimony in the recriminatory breakup ?
