Problems with Colormunki Profiles
« on: October 18, 2008, 12:17:27 pm »

After using profiles created by my Colormunki Photo, a few applications related to color profiles and management start malfunctioning. For example, the Canon print Plug-in for Photoshop throws the error "An error occurred while processing the image" and closes. Also, Windows Photo Gallery, which is a color-management aware application, displays extremely bright images or some (like the test image at http://blogs.msdn.com/color_blog/archive/2...nd-profile.aspx ) don't display at all.

I strongly believe this is a problem caused by Colormunki profiles because as soon as I activate a non-Colormunki profile (the ones Windows brings, from my Spyder, etc) all of the problems disappear and vice versa. Maybe the CM profiles are not up to spec's? Is there such a thing as an ICC profile validator?

My desktop and some applications like Photoshop seem to work fine with the profiles created by my Colormunki. I am using Windows Vista SP1 and ColorMunki Photo 1.0.4.

Any ideas? Thanks!

I'm still on 1.0.2 but that is not happening on my XP Pro or Vista machines. Are you using the APP Setter?

Hey Dave; talk about fast response.

No, I have not used the App Setter; I haven't even calibrated my printer yet which is what I was trying to do with the Canon plug-in when it gave me that error. Thanks.

The Canon print export plugin can't handle ICC version 4 profiles, which is what most newer profiling apps create by default. Either convert to the output profile in Photoshop before printing, or see if Colormunki has an option to generate ICC version 2 profiles.

Not sure what the problem with Windows Photo Gallery could be.

ColorMunki's profiles are ICC Version 4.0.0 with no option to change that while building. Maybe Canon will update their driver?.....

Not directly to do with the OP's problem but this dot release (1.0.4) has solved the problem of the Optimization process crashing the application (XP Pro). X-Rite support has been very good in dealing with this with me.
