Color works better for me too.  There's not enough contrast between the different regions of the sepia one to make it as visually interesting.

However, which is better depends on what message you're trying to communicate (unless it's just a "pretty picture"), and I'm not sure what your message is.

I took the liberty to illistrate what I think you could do with the sepia version to make it more interesting, at least to my eye.

Bear in mind that I'm very partial to B&W.
