Imac 24" vista
« on: October 14, 2008, 06:19:18 am »

I just bought an Imac 24" for home use and I have vista32 on it because I have a pc in the studio and don't want to mess with external HD between OS. I have a nec with spectraview and optixxr in the studio and my idea is to reuse optix to profile the imac. Now the problem is the mac doesn't have controlls on the screen to change brightness etc. I made a quick look and found that I could:

A ) Use usual monaco software.
B ) Use basiccolor; on the web they say (if I understad correctly) http://www.apple.com/de/pro/profiles/spiegel/index3.html that the software controls automatically the luminance. I can't find if this is the same for old versions or a new feature.
C ) Coloreyes. They also state on the homepage that the software controls apple displays, I don't know if this is also true for the new pc version.

Of course option a) is the cheapest one, but, as other people have described a lot of problems to put down the amount of light maybe I should consider b and c.

Any opinion? Thanks in advanced.

I'd go basICColor display. In fact SpectraView Profiler 4 is a basICColor display 4 rebranded for Nec, but the software is just the same, so you'll be alredy familiar with it. You may download 14 day trial version to check if it works for you.

Hello based on this thread I got interested in basiccolor display. I have also an imac 24 and struggling with the brightness. I just got off the phone with their support and they told me that basiccolor display will not get the brightness levels below 200 on an imac because this is a hardware feature as I understood it

Apple does not make an sdk to talk to their monitors with a pc so auto brightness adjustment is not possible. But setting the brightness slider to about 10% and then letting the software adjust the video card will work. In addition I have not had much success profling Vista through parallels on an imac.
