HELP LOST PHOTO LIBRARY
« on: October 07, 2008, 04:13:36 am »

I am also running a Mac 10.5.5. Just upgraded to Lightroom 2.1. I have not had Lightroom Beta on my computer.

Found that most of my photos are missing. So thinking I was clever, sought Lightroom Iract library.

4 Lightroom Library.Iracts came up. Clicked on the last one. The following information came up"

"Lightroom 2 has previously upgraded the selected catalog.
Would you like to use the upgraded catalog instead?

Under this are the words" Selected Catalog: Lightroom library "- Catalog info then
under this are the words" Upgraded Catalog: Lightroom - 2"
- Catalog info

I selected upgrade.

Thinking if I indicated upgrade library to Lightroom 2 all will be well - when Lightroom opened - not one photo -

My pre-sets are there , but no indication that there were ever any photos in Lightroom.

The Screen is blank with only the words" no photo selected"
- also the Develop module left hand photo enhancing icons are all greyed out.

I would ever so grateful if somebody could walk me though of how to find my photos.

thank you

Sue

Sue, sorry to say this is a common problem these days. It sounds like there are several catalogs on your system and sometimes it's hard to know which is the right one (especially if they all have the same names).

I'd suggest doing a search from your desktop (Mac Finder or Windows Explorer) for "Lightroom 2 Catalog". (version one uses just Lightroom Catalog).

From the results list, one by one, double click to open each one until you find the correct one.

If, for some reason, none of these are the catalog you previously converted, find the most recent version of your v1 catalog and re-convert. But make sure you don't keep re-converting; this just means you're opening the wrong (old) catalogs.

Once you've figured out which is the correct catalog, get rid of all the others. You might also want to make a backup of your v1 catalog and then delete it, too.

Even doing so, occasionally when starting Lightroom it may try to load an incorrect catalog. Don't worry, your data is safe. Just keep track of your current catalog location and you can always select it manually if you need to.

And always maintain at least one backup of your current catalog, on separate media from the master.

Hope this helps, good luck!

If some are missing it's probably because they were imported into another catalog. If you still have other catalogs on your system, try an Import from Catalog to integrate those into your main catalog. Good luck! (there are few things more annoying than missing photos...)
