You're welcome, Jim.  I probably won't have time to put it through its paces until next week.  Hopefully we can all share experiences and impressions.

Hello Ron,

do you know:

does improved quality mean I have to reprofile my papers?

thanks

Pieter,

I'll jump in here and say that there is no other info on the HP site other than what Ron quoted in his original post.

My take is that I will try reprofiling a paper or two and see if it makes any difference. If the new profiles are not noticably better on a print, then I will not bother with the rest.

Odd that the only information on the download page is in reference to the Z2100, eh?
I installed it and used APs to calibrate a paper this morning, but have not tried a new profile yet.  FWIW:  I see no appreciable change in the interface.

just made a profile of HP-HG-contract-proofing-paper with aps 1.4
- It was an almost exact match with the one I made with version 1.32
So no change here maybe on matte papers?

Kers-
Mind if I ask you what you did to evaluate the before and after profiles?  Did you compare two test prints, two post-profile color charts, or something else?  I'm trying to decide what to do to test the differences myself?  It would be nice if HP or X-Rite would tell us a bit more of what they did from one version to the next, to make it easier to decide if it was worth investing the time and money in a bunch of new profiles.

Sorry it was a rather non professional way of checking- absolutely not scientific !

I reprofiled and visually checked the 3d shapes of the two profiles using the colorsync-help application of apple OSX  They practically were equal

I wonder if the new profiles with 1.4 are better at softproofing????

Thanks Ron.  It was hung up and I un installed it. I allowed it to "check for updates" when re-installing from the CD.
I suspect the next step will be to uninstall all HP utilities. Delete all HP folders. Reboot computer. Re-install all HP utilities and see if APS starts working again.

Now, APS asks me the activation key of my product, being on the sleeve of the CD.
I don't understand which CD is that ?
Install CD of the Z3100 ? I don't remember how I installed the Eye One APS…
I dread to call abysmal HP customer support here and spend 4 hours like dronson with them
before their bureaucracy realize how to give me a new CD key.
Carly Fiorina anyone ?

Unfortunately, you need to find a different CD, the one that has the original APS install on it, not your printer's install disk.  I think I saw it in the back of the second drawer on the right (oh wait, that was my drawer).

I hope HP won't make me lose too much time, as they did when registering my warranty : an entire month of negociations.
Even Microsoft is not that incompetent.
