Dark output, Ilford Gold Fiber Silk + HP B9180
« on: September 28, 2008, 03:38:03 pm »

Hello everybody,

I have just printed a B&W converted picture on a HP B9180, trying the Ilford Gold Fiber Silk Baryta. I did use the profile on Ilford's webpage (this profile is dedicated to that printer).
No doubt the paper looks awesome and the print shows nice details, but it is just... dark. Very dark. Like I would need to push it 1.5 stops to get something fine under indoor lighting.
When I view the picture in bright day light, it does show details everywhere including in dark areas though.

Is this just a feature of the B9180 ?
I did notice that it was reported to produce dark prints and to need adjustments in the review pointed to by the link below:

Or, more likely, did I do something wrong ?
(yes, the calibration on the monitor used is not perfect, but I could not believe the gamma would be so far off).
