Here's a link for the Chinese Para FB knock-off:

http://bbosasi.com/shop/goods/goods_view.p...category=006002

It's available through the Konova store on ebay. I had to email them, as they don't have it listed in their ebay store. They are based in Seoul, I believe.

I went ahead and ordered the 220cm model at about $1k US delivered. There's also a 180cm model that is slightly cheaper.

Less than a week later, a huge oblong box, over 2m long, arrived.

It's a very nice light for the price, and comes complete with the rolling stand, 5kg counter weight, and an empty sandbag. It is not as adjustable as the Bron -- the head can be extended out about a meter from its set position at the outer edge of the umbrella.  The umbrella has one fixed open position (as seen in the pictures) and can also be closed a bit by sliding the central tube forward.

I've only used it for a couple shoots now, and need to experiment more. The light is very nice though -- punchy, constrasty, very flattering skin.

I have this same BOX and it is pretty good for the money.
Some complaints are the stitching on mine is already opening a little and the Bar where you connect the head does not fit very well with Profoto 7 heads nor Bowens bigger heads.
Does give a nice contrasty light.
Anybody know where to buy the Small deeper ParaBolics... I saw a tiny one in the Photokina pictures from Sinar..?
Thanks for any information, hopefully in the USA if they sell them

A small "Deep Throat" Octa from Elinchrom costs about 300 Euros. Don't know how much it cost in the US...

If you find a small Parabolic tell me where you got it.

It seems Bowens have a new power pack too called Qx3 but I can't find the specifications anywhere on bowens website. Anyway, if somebody is interested here are the links. There's also new geminis and travel pack, I like the option to choose radio trigger with an optional card.

I will be in Hong Kong and Seoul in produciton soon and if time permits (time never permits) I will try to visit these companies or dealers and see what's available and post it later.

I too would like to find a series of para umbrellas expecially the tighter versions and if they aren't available from China, I guess I'll have to pony up the money for profoto.

I would buy Brieze but I don't think they sell or really understand their method of sales, vs. rent.

I know in NY there is a lot of rumors about Brieze and rumors of litagation against people buying them so I don't know the system and once again these are just rumors, nothing I know first hand, so take this with a grain of salt.

James, would be great if you could scout for us a small parabolic reflector and regarding the rumours about Briese see this link:

[a href=\"http://www.briese-lichttechnik.de/briesevsbrieseusa.html]http://www.briese-lichttechnik.de/briesevsbrieseusa.html

By the way, Briese can be rented everywhere in Europe quite easily. Even Briese Focus adapted to take Profoto. Here in Barcelona are two rental outlets at least offering this.

Is there a real profound difference in light quality between the Deep throat Elinchrom and a small parabolic from any other manufacturers ?

The elichrom is a softbox with the flashtube facing the object, while in a parabolic one the flashtube is facing the innerts and only reflected light will leave the parabolic.

I had a conversation with a rep directly at Briese, Germany and they assured me they have nobody officially selling their equipment in North America (US/Canada)

However, with the list of items i put together they offered to deliver and help with installation/presentation or if required send their assistant on the job to make sure
there are no hick ups, which I think is pretty good although of course it comes with the
charming price!!!

They have number of different solutions/ways how to help me... but I have yet to receive the config. from them. non of them via Profoto or Broncolor powerpacks but we'll see what happens...

when I asked... what about Hensel, they said yes most probably!!!

That'll be the day. Hans Werner will be better off having Hensel OEM his power packs. Currently, the Briese flash-heads work with the Hensel Porty battery packs. However, the flash duration is rather long and once the plug is specified for the Hensel, it remains a Hensel plug; you cannot switch back to the Briese plug just in case you wish to use the Yellow Cubes for greater power or shorter flash duration.

Anyhoo, check out Christian Popkes and Apple Computers for a video of the Briese Focus brollies in action: [a href=\"http://www.apple.com/uk/pro/profiles/christianpopkes/]http://www.apple.com/uk/pro/profiles/christianpopkes/

Pier 59 Studios in NYC.

You can fake these looks with silks, fresnels, and grid on the silk(s).  It aint easy and takes lots of lights and lots of immobile rigging.  My back hurts just thinking about it.

Unless these things are an integral part of your look, its best to rent when needed.

I am experimenting with making a focusing adapter to focus light with the Elinchrom Deep Throat Octa (great concept, badly executed).  I figure if if I could move the head around inside the octa I could get light similar to the small Briese.

Can you elaborate how to fake Briese look using fresnels and silk+ grid?

I have no shortage of large and powerful fresnel hot lights (Arri Studio 2KW and 1kW) and gaffer's grips and mounts.

Are you talking about grid cloth like the Chimera one or McGrid?

[a href=\"http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/218753-REG/Chimera_5205_48x48_Reflector_Fabric_.html#accessories]http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/2187...tml#accessories

http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/3344..._.html#features

I am trying to do experiment with my old Elinchrom 14" fresnel spot with a 7'x6'  light diffusion panel.

I also have the Deep Throat. I guess you can move a head in and out by mounting it on a Hollywood arm and the Deep Throat speedring mounted on a disabled head. Thats very crude focusing!  You would need a small head with a small flashtube...the closer the flashtube to a point source , the more effective the focusing. (something like the Profoto Sticklight would be close ).

Okay so how much difference is there between the older style and newer style besides the word parbolic and $6000?
