Rodenstock lenses
« on: September 14, 2008, 03:29:09 pm »

I would like to hear if anybody have personal experiences with the Apo sironar lenses?
I know that the S-lenses are considered to be the best ones, but after studying the MTF-charts
of both I am not so sure anymore. The N-lenses seems to have better resolution.

Is the only advantage of the S-lenses the larger image-circle?

Has anybody used both or done any tests on them?

I use them with a Betterlight scanningback.

yes - angle of view/ use-able circle mostly
I owned both, and didnt find either N or S were that amazing.

you dont say what focal length you are interested in, but best 4x5" standard lens I ever had was zeiss 135mm f3.5 planar, late version with enlarged front element. (67mm front filter thread)  It was so good that I kept it when I sold all the 4x5 other film gear - it blew away all the rodenstocks and symmar's, and was just too amazing to let go, in case 4x5 digital ever came back. No image circle compared to modern lenses, but if you are ready to sacrifice that for better resolution and fast apertures, then thats the ultimate 4x5" lens in my personal experience.

Thank you. Do you have any other favorites about 200mm, for tabletop-shots?
