May depend on whether the video camera manufacturers pick it up?

Plus the development of the USB 3.0 standard has not been totally without controversy; I'd wait to see multiple vendors using it with good interoperability before fussing about it.

There's also a chance that eSATA may become more popular (finally) once the power-over-eSATA variant of the standard is finalised ... again, only if it's picked up and adopted.

Typical computer industry stuff: established interfaces are hard to kill off and new ones take off or not based on all sorts of reasons, technical merit only sometimes being involved.  (In USB 3.0's favour, it's called "USB" which may give it the inside track.  Naming is important; just ask everyone who tried to establish any wired networking technology not named "ethernet"!)
