I've seen a number of comments that there will be further information on them at Photokina. How authoritative those comments were I couldn't tell you. If we don't hear something by Photokina, then I think we have to start viewing these lenses as vaporware.

And what about the 45-90mm ?? In the mamiya site that lens is disappeared! I don't understand what is phaseone doing...there are just 5 digital lenses in the new mamiya platform, Hasselbad makes all lenses, from 28 to 300, in the new digital style! What are they waiting for?
Phase+Mamiya wakeup!!

The 45-90 Mamiya lens is delayed a bit cause they are working some things out from what I have heard. Better they are worked out in the lab vs in the field!

Anyway the Mamiya 150/f2.8 is a beautiful piece of glass.

Certainly is a great lens and got ignored when I posted about the 150mm here. Like it's to long and such. Not for me it's perfect and the sucker does sing a nice tune.

It's not that the 150 is a bad lens.  I know nothing about the Mamiya version, but 150mm is quite long when your talking about cropped sensors.

Let's be realistic about medium format.  The very low end is more expensive than the top end Canon, the middle ground of medium format is twice to three times expensive and the very top end is 6 to 7 times more expensive by the time you buy back, body lenses and accessories.

All this is fine if you can afford it, if it gives you a better image, if it works for your photography and your client.

The thing is at 2,3,4,5,6,7, times more in price there absolutely has to be more options on Glass.

Hasselblad has a fairly nice lens range, the HY6 and AFI with Rollei legacy glass has a lot of options and Phase/Mamiya are building their lens line, TBD.

In other words medium format can't just keep saying, the file is better and bigger but the useability is limited.  Every make must have a lens line as complete as the older medium format film cameras.  Pentax 6x7, RZ's, old mamiya 645's and blads, heck even Bronica had a more comprehensive line that what is currently offered as new designs.

I've said it before, but until your shooting in an interior location with models and try to pull back enough to go full length, you can't understand how way too long 150mm is and how way to round 80mm is.  The 110 mm length , especially at F2, is just perfect and equates very closely to the Canon 85mm 1.2

Medium format needs to dust off some old designs, change the mounts and get those lenses in play.

This last round of announcements kind of surprised me.  I thought all the medium format companies would be offering new lower priced deals but instead all the megapixels and prices went up.

Once again . . . fine, but give us more glass so we can do more.

(higher iso would be nice also).

Won't argue a 110mm would not be nice but in the old days there was a much bigger MF market by a truck load. Today that market has gone down quite a bit. Many went back to DSLR's when digital hit. Me i left it behind and not much chance of buying a Canon ever again if I can help it. Anyway for manufactures it is tough to bring a full line out today. I give Mamiya credit for bringing out what they are right now but they also are coming in with a high dollar mark on them. The 150mm is 3300.00 but coming from Leica that is not even a heart skip. LOL

But I agree there are some nice lenses out there from Hassy , Rollie and Mamiya and this may change even more after Photokinia . Who knows what maybe entering this world. I'm just waiting for more surprises in a couple weeks to be announced. One thing though about MF is i don't have nearly the amount of glass as i did in leica. Different mentality I think. I have 5 lenses now and had 11 when I had leica. Not sure what to make of that. I guess we seem to adjust or i was just a lens whore before. LOL

Excuse me for editing your post but maybe this is a self fulfilling prophecy.

There sure isn't less photographers today than there was 10 years ago, so why less cameras?

I think we know why.

Obviously and we can all speculate why.

I have always believed had their been a p21, or A22, at around 12k 5 years ago there would be a lot less Canon users.  Had these backs gone to higher iso, like 800 and had a better lcd there would be even more people still buying medium format cameras.

Locking the systems down, hasn't helped and sent all those devleopment dollars and time on proprietary systems that keep going up in price.

In the last few years of the changes other than limit what back goes on what camera, there hasn't been that drastic of a difference in what the actual cameras do.  Really . . . what does an H3 do that is that different than an H-1 . . . a  Mamiya to a Contax . . . a 6008 to a HY6/AFI?

Sure there are some electronic improvements and better focusing but overall it's stil the same box and lens mounted to a digital back.

I believe medium format needs to think of ways to grow the sector and making it less complicated would be a great start.  Any back should easily clip on any camera, not limited.

If you take this from a new buyer's viewpoint that doesn't know that much about what works with what, walk into a camera store and say I want a medium format camera and I'd also like to put some kind of back on it.

I can promise you the result of that question will make you dizzy.

There really needs to be a chart listing what works with what, what is and isn't available and the only problem is it would be 45 pages long and have five thousand astericks.

What, you want us to spill all of our beans before Photokina? Then what would there be to announce? In all seriousness, this is a conversation best had in a few weeks.

How about instead of lingually twiddling our thumbs someone post some pictures of some really attractive women? JR? That always makes the time pass faster for me.

For those that really feel a need to have noticeable temporal progress towards Photokina we should have a countdown clock on our website next week.

Well part of the issue was 8 years ago i could not touch a MF back without selling my house, wife and 2 kids. That has changed for the better at least it is not 60 k anymore. I also think we are seeing a lot more people coming back into MF and that is only a good thing for us existing users. New product and better pricing and yes James i do completely agree on the part about walking in a store and getting totally confused. I guess we can chalk that up to fewer users and canon and Nikon advertise like crazy in all normal magazines so more folks are aware what is out there. This MF world is the cloak and dagger of advertising and none of it in say Sports Illustrated and such. So very few in the public realize it is out there or have misconceptions about MF world and the biggy even for me was the costs and avoided it for years. Hopefully that will change as we see more 17k bodies and backs being offered.
