phase one 645 camera question
« on: September 02, 2008, 10:42:05 am »

Hello everybody,

since one week I got the phase one camera.
Does anyone have any expirences with what I would call "a delay while pressing the shutterrelease" It feels like pressing the button and nothing happens for half a second....

Thanks for help

I thought that was taken care.... That was supposed to be fixed in the newer bodies?

I own and use the Phase One camera since June and have had no problem.
If you shoot with a Phase One back, have you set the shutter latency to short?
I have read about older AF lenses causing delays because of the chip built in, the communication seems to work slower in that case.
Have you tried with manual focus and / or manual exposure? Does the delay occur as well?

I use the AFD III and have had no delay issues - once focus is achieved. With manual focus there should be no delay at all. As already suggested, check shutter latency.
Good luck,

I have the new body too and it is notably faster (shorter delay) than the AFD2 body was.  If your lag is 1/2 second -- which is horrendously long -- I suspect your back is set to "long" latency.  Change the latency to "short" and it should be much better

I too have the Phaseone camera and have noticed this.

I was shooting some dance artists in mid flight (jumping) last week and it proved to be very hard to judge when to press, but after a while you get used to it.  I will check out the short latency thing when I get into the studio.

Also I do find that occasionally the camera will expose an image wide open, only a few times in the 600 captures that I have done so far.

In spite of all the above, I love this camera, for me, it's so much nicer to use than the Hasselblad V that I traded it for which was too hard to focus unless tethered....
