A few from Grand Teton
« on: August 27, 2008, 12:53:12 pm »

Hi all,

Here is a recent image from Grand Teton. I was there in June. I got some late snow and a hoar frost so there was some great possibilities. But, the light was VERY fleeting with heavy, uniform clouds most of the time. But, when the light did break through it made some nice images.

My apologies to AA on this first one. I hadn't really intended to make an image at the snake river overlook. But, the light broke out and it was the closest spot to find something (anything) for the foreground.

I'll post some more if there is any interest. All comments are appreciated.

Very nice toning.  I would consider a top crop though, the dark cloud mass pulls my eye.

I think I agree. Beautiful scenery, but there's just too much sky.

Agreed.  Beautiful work, though.

Thanks all. I think I might actually agree about the cropping. I did love that wispy bit of cloud in the top left though. I might try lessening the darkness of the cloud top right first.

Anyways, here are a couple more from the same location (turned around 180 degrees)

Mount Leidy with some great light on it in B&W and colour.

I really love that first one!  I really like the expansive sky and clouds.  A crop is also nice but I'm more partial to the uncropped version.  Excellent work!

Great stuff.  A couple of nice moments can make up for a lot of blah weather, eh?
Here's another vote for keeping all of the pixels in the first shot.

Bret, Ron, thank you both. I did work up a new version with a slightly lightened cloud top right which I think is the best of both worlds. I'll post a copy when I get home tonight.
