Coding of ink cartridges
« on: August 16, 2008, 01:35:36 pm »

This might be a stupid question but in the past I have read on the internet that some manufacturers code there ink cartridges so that a European spec printer could not use ink cartridges bought in the US.

Does anybody know if this is the case with the Canon iPF5100?

As I import all my paper from the US (nothing available locally) it would be easy and convenient to add my ink supplies to the order.

I recently saw a post in this forum from a guy in New Zealand who said he got his genuine Canon carts from Japan - at a big saving.    Requests by me and others about where he gets them have got no response.

Either he is genuine, and they are not coded, or he is a deceiver.

When I had a HP DJ90, I got inks from the USA sent to me here in Oz and they worked well.  I think that the inks will work anywhere for the wide format machines.

Thanks for the reply.

I might take the chance with the one cartridge that is low when I order my next batch of paper.

Funnily though the printer I got from Canon Philippines (part of Canon Singapore) is a European model, it came with a British 3 pin plug power lead and a European Shuko plugged lead.

I'm still waiting for a reply from Canon Philippines on the cartridges prices locally but as I paid the equivalent of $3,500 for the iPF5100 I'm assuming the ink will be similarly over priced.
