HD3II-31 vs HD3-39
« on: July 31, 2008, 10:55:48 am »

I have a chance to buy an HD3II-31 brand new or HD3-39 used for about the same price.  I would like to know if you would go for 31MP new and improved vs 39MP?  I plan on using it for landscape and fine art.  Maybe some portraits too.

Thanks,

landscape
On the 31 there will be a crop/lens factor of 1.3. On the 39 it's 1.1. With regard to wide angle the 39 is more suitable

You also should factor in the warranty costs..new v. used.

The quality between the 31 and 39 is very little, I believe, I bought the H3D-39 new for almost 2 years, and the quality from the new Phocus software is very good. I will still go for an old H3D-39, if it is the same price as a new H3D-31 II new. But that's just me.  Crop factor or not is not a big issue for me as long as you are used to it and have enough lens selection to cover what is needed.

Ths high iso performance is much incredible on the H3DII-31.  May not matter if only landscapes.

I'm been told by Hasselblad 1 year ago that 31mp has micro-lenses and 22/39mp doesn't.  So in wide angle application, you may run into some problem on the edges as per wide angle lenses in 35mm DSLR where all the sensors have micro-lenses.  Hope that helps.
