Lightroom 2 Pricing
« on: July 30, 2008, 08:28:58 pm »

Can anybody explain why Lightroom 2 is priced at $99 for an upgrade and $299 for the full product only if you live in North America.

I live in Asia and the prices for the upgrade is quoted at $129 or $389 for the full product.

I've been trying, unsuccessfully to purchase the upgrade using a friends US address but as the Credit Card (US $ card) has an overseas address it won't let me proceed.

With an online web store I would have assumed the price would be the same around the world.

EDIT: When I go to the Asia (English) Adobe site the price's are as quoted above $129 upgrade, $389 for the full product.

Why should I be paying $30 more just because I don't live in the US?

I've just bought the Lightroom 2 tutorial, same price for me as it is for everybody in the world.

Edit, My mistake, I forgot the $9.03 sales tax.......... total $138.03

It's unfortunate, but they do it because they can.  They set the price based on what they think the market will allow and in this case they assume that people in Asia will be willing to pay $30 more for it than people in the US.

What's really annoying is that I work for a US company, bank in US dollars, but just happen to be based in the Philippines. Consequently (I've tried all sorts) there's no way round it.

I stumped up and purchased it from the nearest online store, Singapore, and all I got was "We will review your order and get back to you". I can see that they will deny it order as the country is down as Singapore but the billing address is Philippines.

Maybe I should just walk down to the market and buy the pirate DVD for $4! It is the Philippines after all........ I actually was offered it yesterday but declined and said I'd buy my copy. I've spent about 8 hours trying to figure out how to buy it.

Not to chuffed with Adobe just now.......

I'm disgusted by it. So much so, that I won't be purchasing any Adobe products until they readjust their prices.
