Email to Epson about R2880 and clogging.
« on: July 21, 2008, 12:36:12 pm »

I just got some clog prevention advice from Espon.
This information indicates that the new printers (perhaps)
clog less.

-----------------My EMAIL TO Epson: -------------------------

"My R2880 is brand new.
I'm upgrading from 1290.

1.)
How often do I have to print with the R2880 to avoid clogging.
(The 1290 had to be printed every day and it still clogged.)

Every day or is once a week enough ?

2.)
I alwaws do a "Print Head Nozzles Check" before printing.
Does this waste more ink than what is printed on the plain paper used ?

3.)
Shall I turn the R2880 OFF
or shall I leave it on if I am going to print the next day ?

Does the R2880 waste any INK when turned ON ? "

-------- Epson answer: -------------------------------------

"Thank you for taking the time to contact Epson.
It is my pleasure to respond to your inquiry.

My recommendation is that if you are not printing often
with your new 2880 if you printed the nozzle check pattern
once a week that should be sufficient to keep our heads from
clogging.

It is also important that your printer remains closed and also
try to keep dust away. As far as turning it on and off, If you
not going to use your printer in a week or more you may want to
turn it off, if you will use it periodically you can leave it on.

Should you require further assistance with this issue,
please use the "Reply With History" option, including
your previous e-mail with your new request. If you have
a different technical support issue, please submit another
E-form via our website (http://www.epson.com), and we will
respond in a timely manner. Thank you again for contacting Epson.

So far I've let mine sit several days at a time with no clogging issues.  I always print a nozzle check before doing any serious printing on expensive paper... the first nozzle check I ran after first ink charge only showed one bar missing and this since cleared up after running a few pages through.
