My APS stopped working
« on: July 18, 2008, 04:22:28 pm »

Hello,

I have Z3100 connected with Ethernet.
I use APS, (PC - v1.3.1.0) but that no longer sees the printer. If I click 'Profiling' then 'Printer' it normally shows up with the printer in the green box, and the paper next to it. But now it shows Printer Status as not connected, in a brown box.

I can browse the printer using a web browser fine, HP Color Center finds it OK, and I just calibrated some paper.

I have uninstalled, reboot, re-installed APS.
I have switched off, re-started the printer.
But no joy.

Any ideas? Thanks

Did you check your firewall to see if that's the culprit?

Checked Firewall, switched it off for a minute even.

Another thing I have just noticed - In the Easy Printer Care / Color Center, it gives me the options to Calibrate Your Printer, or Display, But the options Create and Install ICC Proffile, Install ICC Profile and Manage Papers are greyed out and not selectable.

Also, if I launch Color Center directly, (there is a shortcut in my Start Menu), it says 'No Supported Printer Has Been Found' - but I can access Color Center through Easy Printer Care.

I have checked the front panel settings on the printer, checking network, its OK,  there is an option Printer Utility Software and another called Color And Paper Management - both are set to enabled.

Am starting to panic now, I have a client who needs prints for tomorrow!

Does the IP address of the printer as shown in the front panel of the printer match the IP address in the print driver?

In the print driver:
Port Settings, It asks Printer names or IP Address, I have set that to Printer Name 'Z3100'. And have the option 'Always print to this device, even if its IP address changes' selected. This hasn't changed since day one.

Printer is set to DHCP address.

PhotoDude-
Your problem sounds like the same sort of issue that jrdigiart is having.  I'm on a Mac, so it could be of no use at all, but I have had to resort to doing everything except printing by hooking up my printer directly over USB instead of my ethernet network as before.  HP broke the Manage Papers capability through the Printer Utility with the latest driver, so I have had to resort to a non-networked connection to solve it for me.  It may, at least, be worth a try to see if it makes a difference for you.
Best of luck,
Ron H.

You gave me an idea about that IP address there Ron ... I set the IP address Manually, in the print driver, by adding a new port and setting an IP rather then a printer name and .... Whiola (sp)!!!!

Everything is back to normal!!!
Phew, 1030PM here, this job needs done by the morning. Where's that coffee pot.

Thank you SO much Ron for your help.

Thanks, John

Thanks for the suggestion, I was thinking about USB, but my printer is not within distance for USB cable. I was going to install the printer software on my laptop, if need be and try USB from there. But I have fixed the problem (see above post) by forcing the driver to use an IP adress rather then rely on finding the printer by name, and it worked straight off. Perhaps jrdigart can try that? If somebody can point him to this post?
