Matte Heavyweight Paper / R2880
« on: June 30, 2008, 10:25:30 am »

I have an Epson R2880 printer on order.

I am upgrading from the Epson 1280.
(I may keep it. I suspect that the R2880 will not do better prints.
But I'm glad if I'm wrong  )

I have som "Matte Heavyweight Paper".
(not that much but some A3 and A3+)

I have looked in the manual and this paper
is not one of this printer's options.
(I hope You understand my "english".)

1.) Can I Use this paper.

and if so

2.) What paper shall I choose in  the media-type
when I use the "Matte Heavyweight Paper"

3.) What matte paper shall I bye ?

Yes you can use that paper.  Just use the media setting of enhanced matte.  A really good paper that will show the true results for your new printer would be the Epson Ultrasmooth Paper.  Very deep black like your 1280.

Epson Matte Paper-Heavyweight was recently renamed by Epson (lame in my opinion, but Epson marketing staff seems to like to keep its customers guessing and perhaps believing they are buying something new when it has really been around for a while).  The paper is now called Premium Presentation Paper Matte.  As your printer is very new, the Presentation Paper Matte name is very likely to turn up as a media setting in the new driver. That would be the media setting to use for you older batch of the same stuff.

Epson archival matte got renamed to Epson Enhance Matte quite some time ago. Customers noticed yellowing fairly early on (perhaps a loss of OBA activity, but maybe more), so the name "Archival matte" seemed a bit misleading. To avoid confusion (embarassment?) Epson renamed this paper "Enhanced Matte". At least the renaming of this paper had purpose.  Lately, renaming papers for no obvious reason has become a favorite pastime for the Epson marketing staff!

So the longlevity for the "Matte Heavyweight Paper"
is better than for the "Archival Matte Paper"  ???

(I have never used this paper
as it is not among the 1280 media options
but I have seen it. It locks just like
the "Matte Heavyweight Paper".
Just a bit thicker.
I ordered an A4-50-pack yesterday to compare.
In the EU it is still named   "Archival Matte Paper")
