Ink carts dont empty ....they are swindling us?
« on: June 12, 2008, 05:46:10 pm »

ok so ive just change my last cart of the whole lot and i wait until the printer stops and says change cartridge.   I thought i would crack open a few of the old carts to see how much ink is inside, on average i have discovered about 10-20ml of ink in each cart...... thats a scandle!!! the printer says they are empty, bu they are not completely empty!!!

SO what can be done to ensure every last drop of ink is used, otherwise im wasting money!!!!

any ideas... is this the same on all epson carts and printers? Should the cart be completely dry or only have residue left? to mee it seems that something stinks...

Do you know for sure how much ink is in the cart when new? I suspect the remaining ink is to remove any possibility of air blocks which would waste more ink in having to clear them. Try weighing the carts before and after use to get an idea of how much you are really using - they may contain more that 80ml when new.

im sure they wouldnt give us more than 80ml, that would go against what they are quoting on the packaging. But yes, it is an interesting point and i will carry out a test on the next cart

A full 3800 cart weighs 150g, I don't have an empty one handy.

Has been a usual Epson waste issue. About 10% on the old 9000 carts, got its peak with the first 9600 carts and firmware but was changed in the 9600 firmware after user complaints and it got less with the 9800 and 9880 generations. On the old models you didn't get extra ink in the cart for compensation. Might be different now.

Both the Canon and HP wide format carts are pumped empty and what I measured on the last all you pay for is pumped into the printer. At most 5 ML left which has been overfill.

I thought 3800 is supposed to utilize inks in a more efficient way?
but check this out:

Maybe it's time to move to a 3800 bulk ink system:

which will make sure you utilize 100% of your inks & ...... save you $$$
