Phase One 645 AF
« on: May 15, 2008, 03:12:25 pm »

Several people have asked me about the new Phase One 645 AFD and what it will do and other specs.  Here is a link to our web site to show you and tell you more about it.   The body is more robust and the AF is faster.  We will have them at our seminars in Atlanta, Greensboro, Miami and West Palm Beach.  You can find the details on the same page as this link:

Hi
I talked to the Mamiya agent here about the new AFDIII & he said there is about a 15% improvement in shooting rate due to the improved shutter release. Also the AF is faster & quieter. The agent also said the new 120D lens is the best he has ever seen.

Today I saw and only held the new phase next to the HY6 and the H3d Blad.

The new Phase feels 100% better than before and I didn't notice any really aware shutter lag, but I didn't  shoot more than a few frames.  Overall the whole camera feels better and more sustaintial due to the rubber grips and the 80mm lens, but the lens or something still makes some noise when focusing.

The Hy6 has a huge focusing screen and the most accurate I've seen in any medium format camera.  The ground glass is impressive, though I still don't get the blue color or the different shades of grey-black.

Still, the focusing is really pin point pop.

The Blad is the same ol' H series except the lcd is really an improvement over anything I've seen in medium format, though the preview is still "challenged" next to a dslr.

Of course compared to my Contax's they all have much bigger views in the finders, even the Phase/Mamiya III.
