Accurate long exposures with view cameras
« on: May 07, 2008, 09:04:58 am »

I want to shoot some multi-row panoramas with an Eyelike M11 on a Sinar. The lenses are mounted in Prontor Professional 01S shutters. Exposure times are likely to be in the range of 10~25 seconds. I've tried using a stopwatch, but there are too many exposure variations between frames.

I'm trying to think of a solution, and these look like my options:

1. Get an electronic camera which has the speeds I need. This would mean the loss of in-camera perspective correction.
2. Use an electronic shutter like the Sinarcam2 or Schneider/Rollei shutter systems. Pricey, plus I'm not sure the Sinarcam2 will work with the Eyelike.
3. Get a Prontor timer cable release. Discontinued. Pricey if new, or if it's used, being mechanical, might not be accurate/reliable.
4. Get the KaptureGroup Cable Release MD1202. Also pricey, and I don't know  how it works. I've emailed KaptureGroup, and hope to receive a response soon.

Are there any other solutions? Does any one have any experience with the KaptureGroup Cable Release?

Cheers,
Kumar

EDIT: I just got an email from Keith Hughes of KaptureGroup. He says that the MD1202 will only create a trigger to fire the shutter. It cannot hold the shutter open. So this option is out. I'd be glad to hear of any ideas!

Cheers,
Kumar

Kumar,

Here is a link to our web site showing you the Multi-Pop / Multi-Exposure Adapter.  I'm not sure if it's exactly what you are looking for since you need more of a timer, but take a look.  I would also ask Keith at Kapture Group if it will connect on your Eyelike 11, since we use it for Phase One DBs.

Chris,

Thanks for the reply.
Your Multi-Pop / Multi-Exposure Adapter is great for multi-pop flash, but is there a way to time the total ambient exposure as well? If it could connect to an Eyelike,  I might be able to do a series of 1 second exposures. But doing that for a multi-row panorama with each exposure ranging from 10~25 seconds might be a little difficult!

Cheers,
Kumar
