Profoto Universal power adapter and Pro B batterie
« on: May 01, 2008, 01:17:38 pm »

just wanted to share that I had good experience using their 85W adapter on my Pro B2
http://www.profoto.com/en/products/accesso...to-adapter-85w/
I can run my Pro 7 heads with modelling lamps continuously and the battery still loses power but not nearly as quickly as when it's used with the battery alone.

the proper adapter for the Pro 7b and B2 is here
http://www.profoto.com/en/products/accesso...-power-adapter/

however at over a thousand bucks that is crazy...

seems like both act as power chargers that charge the batteries fast enough for the modelling lights to run simultaneously, the only difference is of course how much energy they pump in per second?
The Universal power adapter for the Pro B line does some "battery reconditioning" although I'm not sure exactly how this works

Anyone have experience with the Pro B Universal power adapter?
Anything special with it? Found the manual below
http://www.profoto-usa.com/customerservice...v_pwr_adptr.pdf

Also, my Pro B batteries start losing their charge within close to a year so I've been changing the batteries at my local cable solderer. Much cheaper alternative to paying 400 bucks for another battery I guess

the 85 watt adapter does not charge the battery---it only takes the modeling light load off the battery( at least on the 600b) and places it on ac.  i didn't know it worked on the b2.
the universal adapter for the b2 actually charges the battery while in use.

Do the modelling lamps run at full wattage with this, or at the limited 100w as provided by the adapter?

I notice that the 85w adapter is meant only for the AcuteB.

I have a multispot and its modelling lamp is impossibly faint on the 7b pack.  Its supposed to be 300W on a studio pack.

Hi all profoto users

pretty old thread but I would like to know if there're some other members that have tried this without damaging the generator?

Somehow I would think the Pro7b head would need to have the same 65w model bulb as the acute600b head?

all the best

This interests me, too, but since I'm not using mine with a mediumformat back, I fear the wrath of Estonia.

I just took delivery on a 600 kit, and I already owned the 7B 1200.

Does anyone know if the heads can be used interchangeably? Or should I put giant label on each head? 600 and 1200, and never stick the 600 head into the 1200 pack?

And we always argue about that charger/110 piggyback unit for the 7B, on whether it's actually transferring the power to 110 when you're using it in the studio, and bypassing the battery entirely, or whether it's just charging the battery while you use it on battery power. Does anyone know for sure?

Thank you.

the heads are not interchangeable for sure, some difference in voltage used

but as I understand you can use the included charger while shooting and charge the battery but much slower then using the studio adapter

all the best,
