I was wondering if I would ever receive it, now I have hope! Let us know how it works! Did you test more than one 14-24?
Thanks

Mine arrived two days ago.
Never had any doubt that it would
- just a bit of frustration at the (perhaps understandable and forgivable) delay.

Now to make it work !

Having some initial problems with fitting it to the 1Ds3
- Mark assures me that it will be OK - will post more info when I know more.

OK Guys I think you can stop worrying - this thing certainly does exist AND works - exif data and all.

It is a little fiddly to set up right but the instructions are clear and you need to ensure that they are followed exactly (eg I didn't get the set screw absolutely flush and even a small amount standing out will prevent mating) - I know 'real men' don't read instructions but these short simple ones you should.

First impressions of the lens are quite exciting but further practice will be good - unfortunately my 1Ds3 goes in to Canon for repair tomorrow (filament attached to the sensor mounting hanging down over one corner of the sensor !!) and I sold my 5D last week - poor timing eh !!

I suspect that Mark has been as frustrated as any of us with the problems producing this adapter - and I for one have been very frustrated having the 14-24 for 4 months sitting looking at me but not being able to use it - however as I said above it is real and it really works so many thanks to Mark for his initiative and ingenuity in making this available to us at what is a very modest extra cost over the Fotodiox Pro basis that has had quite extensive modification.

I look forward to a long and happy relationship with what does indeed appear to be remarkable lens combined with the power of the 1Ds3 ( when that gets sorted of course - it never rains but it pours !!!).

Thanks for your patience, all! The lever-free version is a properly viable way to get the best from your 1Ds III: in fact, it's the only way to realise its full potential sub-20mm.

The lever version is a slightly taller order, but we should have some news on that in the next few days. Sadly, in two crucial areas I am dependent on suppliers to deliver the adaptor, and they have not proven to specialise in speedy turnaround . . . such are the perils of bespoke items.

We're working toward having the adaptors on hand for immediate delivery: then they will be available exclusively on eBay at an increased price.

And that right there was enough to push me over the edge and order one today!
I can't wait to receive it Mark!

I know you are back ordered and they take some time to fabricate, but any idea on how far off May orders would be from shipping?

So for those that have received the adapters - is it the lever free or the lever adapters?   When trying to place an order there isn't even a way to purchase the lever one at least not a way that I am seeing.

I am not sure why getting actual information about this adapter is so difficult.

For such an in-demand item there sure is very little information about it.

Mark Welsh, the person who makes these available said in a post a couple above yours:

Sorry Huib: we've still got supply problems getting hold of the base adaptor. I was promised a delivery out of the factory door on May 5: as of today, May 28, nothing.

If it's any consolation, Fotodiox are having the same trouble, and have no stock of the same item. However, I think – today – I've struck a deal with another supplier who have promised to be much more reliable. I'm very much hoping that they will get us back on track.

Is anybody happy with the adapter?
[a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=198530\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a]

I'm happy with mine (lever-less version).  I just rented a Nikon 14-24 for 2 weeks to test on my 5D with Mark's adapter.  Sadly, I had to ship the lens back yesterday.  Wonderful combo - the 5D, adapter and 14-24.

The adapter simply works as advertised.  It fits both the lens and the camera mount very well and, if you follow the written directions, is easy to mount and unmount from the camera.  The focus confirm chip is a very nice and much appreciated addition/feature and works just fine.

I have only 4 nits with the design:  1) the adapter is very thin and sits very close to the camera body and the 14-24 very large so I found it sometimes difficult to mount/unmount by just rotating the adapter and not the lens as well (as suggested by the directions) and it'd be impossible if wearing gloves, 2) while the adapter is marked with f/2.8, f/8 and f/22 points, chosing any other aperture is guess work and can'ty easily be replicated (for my landscape tests, I rotated the lens to approximately half way between the f/8 mark and f/22 mark and judging from the histogram when compared to other lenses I was testing at f/14, at that position the lens was very close to f/14), 3) I often found it difficult to get in a position to see the aperture markings or to get a good angle on them to tell "exactly" where the lens was lined up and 4) when rotating the lens to obtain different apertures, even my smallish fingers would often bump/move either the focus or zoom ring (and I think it'd be impossible to change the aperture without moving the focus or zoom rings if one was wearing gloves).  Now don't get me wrong, none of my nits are fatal flaws (to me at least).  Heck, I like the simplicity of the thing.  The design of the lever-less adapter just requires the user to be very aware, to plan ahead (e.g. set aperture first, then focus/zoom) and to be a bit flexible when it comes to setting your aperture at anything other than f/2.8 and f/22.

Kudos to Mark for making this available!  For those of us with a serious interest in using the 14-24 or other Nikon lenses on our Canon bodies, the adapter is a god-send.  And the lever version, when it becomes available, will make an already invaluable product even better.

Cheers!

PS: I should add the there is enough friction between the adapter and lens so that once you set the aperture, you can rotate the zoom and focus rings to your heart's content without fear of inadvertently changing the aperture.

I'll leave it up to Mark to post a photo of the adapter - I don't want to give away any "trade secrets".  That said, the adapter is a modified Fotodiox Nikon to Canon Pro adapter and a photo of that adapter can be found here:
